Dear Business Leader:
Research shows that today's schools can help
prepare the workforce of tomorrow by exposing students and educators to
the world of work. On behalf of the Board of
Directors of the
Attleboro
Area
School to Career Partnership,
Inc., I am asking for your support in this
endeavor.
Our mission is to foster
collaboration between businesses, school systems and their respective
community organizations for the preparation of a highly skilled
workforce by supporting work-based learning activities. We promote and
coordinate programs that support the "career exploration continuum"
which consists of career days, job shadow exploration days, internships,
and job placement.
During fiscal year ending June 2008 the
partnership is proud to report that we accomplished the
following through grants, individual and corporate
donations, and state and federal grants:
- Placed 451
students in job or internship opportunities with 184
employers.
- Organized 4 Career
Days for over 1,450 students at
the high school and middle school level.
- Provided 300+ job
shadows for high school students with 142
employers.
- Introduced 140
students to a broad range of careers in the Healthcare and
Construction fields.
- Provided one-week
externships for 3educators to learn about skills and competencies needed in today's
workplace.
- Supported a Non-Traditional Student Support
Group in Attleboro High which 35 students participated
in.
- Created training
modules in the area of career development that benefited 100 students.
- Worked with Invensys Foxboro and Sensata to
support 10 students in
a Work Based Learning Project.
- Hire a Teen Campaign - Which allowed us to
place 50+ additional students working with local companies like yours
to provide the training necessary to develop the tools and life skills
to be successful in the workplace.
- Trained 16
students to become Certified
Nursing Assistants through our Health Career Pathways Program offered
with the help and support of Lifecare of Attleboro and
Sturdy
Memorial
Hospital.
In total our organization was able to reach out
and provide services to a total of 2,500 students in four school systems
with the support we received from last year.
Some
of our goals for the coming year include:
- Increasing support for student
internships and job shadow experiences.
- Expanding teacher externships in
the spring of 2009.
- Sustaining the partnership
through diversified funding sources.
Increasing our staff to
service all 7200 students in grades 8-12.
After learning about
the benefits our organization provides to so many students, I urge you
to make a Tax-deductible contribution using the enclosed pledge
form.
Thank you for your
time,

Christine M. LaChance, Executive
Director
The Attleboro Area School to Career Partnership,
Inc.
